Purrfect Putt!! - 2D Golf Roguelike

Purrfect Putt is a 2D action rogue-like arena game where the player uses golf to fend off against waves of enemies. You play as Felix as he collects upgrades and defeat enemies to claim the winning trophy!

This game is the result of a 6-month long school project where I worked as a solo artist with 6 programmers tasked to develop a custom C++ game engine to create a 2D game. Since it is a custom engine, there had to be a lot of communication between the art and programming department regarding game play and art limitations.

Being the only artist, I had to create all the concepts and assets for the game. This project was a great learning experience about game development and workflow. Being a 2D game artist is not only about creating appealing illustrations, but to a good design and purpose for each asset. Things to consider while creating the assets are readability, cohesiveness and responsiveness, this leads to players feeling immersed in the game and receive visual feedback that feels clear and satisfying. Thus, The totality of the UI design, VFX, visual feedback and visual cohesion contributes to creating an unforgettable experience for the player.

Aside from the art development, I have also contributed to the game design and game play mechanics idealization. While it is awesome to brainstorm creative and fun game play mechanics, there is always a need to consider the overall scope and actual executable implementation, this can be applied to both art and programming.

In the end, I had a blast working on this project and gained crucial experience in creating game art asset. And along the way I had the chance to befriend a group of talented programmers that I hope to work again.
